Lora Reynolds Gallery is pleased to announce our first solo exhibition of new paintings by Scotland based artist Karen Breneman.

This exhibition has been curated by the esteemed Anthony d'Offay and will be the first solo exhibition for Breneman in the United States. The exhibition will include fifteen acrylic and graphite paintings on panel.

Breneman's paintings are an exploration of discipline and endurance. The imagery in Certain Creatures draws from a wide range of interests including prehistoric birds, migratory formations and cycling pelotons. Many of her works are influenced by experiences while reaching her physical limitations as a competitive cyclist. Themes of human suffering and transcendence are reflected in her painting process as her layered surfaces are built up and worn away.

Karen Breneman was born in 1978 in Sarasota, Florida. She now lives and works in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her work has been exhibited in Europe and the United States.

Legendary art dealer Anthony d'Offay has played a key role in the promotion and understanding of 20th century art for more than 30 years. His London gallery, which he closed in 2002, worked with numerous influential contemporary artists including, Joseph Beuys, Vija Celmins, Gilbert and George, Jeff Koons, Anselm Kiefer, Ron Mueck, Gerhard Richter, Ed Ruscha, Robert Therrien and Andy Warhol.
