Artist Talk: Curator's talk at 6:30 pm
Lora Reynolds Gallery is pleased to announce our first group exhibition – Suspended Narratives. The exhibition is organized by New York based, independent curator, Maureen Mahony.
"Just what content consists of in any given case has seldom been a simple question."
– Thomas Frick
"Suspended Narratives brings together works in a variety of media that intimate a narrative or dialogue while remaining open-ended. The artists included in the exhibition use a host of devices to avoid straightforward interpretive content without eliminating representation.
A balancing act between literal imagery and obscurity of meaning is an investigation common to these artists. The works reference literature, appropriate media, fabricate narrative or replicate reality while simultaneously maintaining an ambiguous relationship with any overt message. By remaining deliberately open, these works invite both personal and universal interpretation, and offer multiple possibilities for extracting conceptual implications from recognizable imagery."
– Maureen Mahony
The following artists are included in the exhibition: Fiona Banner, Dike Blair, Matthew Brannon, Gregory Crewdson, Dara Friedman, Douglas Gordon, Corin Hewitt, Jim Hodges, Roni Horn, Sherrie Levine, David Lieske, Christian Marclay, Tony Matelli, Michael Phelan, Ed Ruscha, Jason Singleton, Robert Therrien, Kelley Walker.
